The Importance Of Competency Skills For Counseling

When I first stated I was interested in counseling, I thought all I had to do was sit in a chair and listen. I have learned there is a lot more to counseling than just sitting there and listening, you must learn to use competency skills as well. Looking over the 14 personal competencies which includes: 1) Be nonjudgmental; 2) be flexible; 3) be resourceful; 4) personal observations; 5) pay attention to thoughts and feelings; 6) listen carefully; 7) observe attentively; 8) assume complexity; 9) tolerate the stress of uncertainty; 10) have patience; 11) manage personal biases and stereotypes; 12) keep a sense of humor; 13) show respect; and 14) show empathy, I plan to rate myself on a scale of 1(low) to 10 (high) to see what areas are my†¦show more content†¦It does not mean I haven’t been disrespected, it just means that when that happens I can always turn to that person and reply, â€Å"I’m sorry did I disrespect you in anyway because you are disrespecting me and I will not accept it?† I was fortunate enough to be educated on how to use the internet to find resources of any kind, so for me being resourceful is another area that I feel I would rate very high. My family teases me with the nickname of â€Å"google master†, because if there is a need, they know I can locate it without a doubt. I listed more than 3 because it was hard to leave them out, but of the highest ranked competencies, being flexible would be another one to mention. I go over and above to accommodate others. I always make sure those in need can be accommodated. I am a true care giver and I take that to heart. Now that my life has gone through a transitional stage, I look back and see how accommodating I was to others, almost to the stage of being used. I made sure if my phone rung, I answered. If they needed me to watch the kids, I was available. My vocabulary did not include â€Å"no† unless you offered me brussel sprouts. Power Corrupts Essays - 789 Words

Power Corrupts Throughout the history of man, rulers and philosophers have proven that power corrupts. The British Historian Lord Acton observed that â€Å"power tends to corrupt; absolute power corrupts absolutely†. Lord Acton statement is proven through the actions of rulers such as Charles I of England and Hitler. In a letter to his friend Lord Acton wrote that â€Å"power tends to corrupt; absolute power corrupts absolutely†. This quote describes how absolute power always becomes corrupt. Lord Acton recognized the dangers of political power. He understood that rulers put their own interest above all and will do just about anything to stay in power. He believed that wars were always started to†¦show more content†¦In 1642, he was finally overthrown in a civil war against forces led by Oliver Cromwell, who later removed the Parliament by force. Charles I is an obvious example of the corruption of power[3]. The Actions of Hitler also confirms Lord Acton’s theory. Hitler aimed to increase his powers by increasing the size of Germany. Even though Hitler had incredible power he wanted to continuously expand it. The German bourgeoisie paid a heavy price for handing power to Hitler. Once in power, the Nazi bureaucracy could not be controlled by the ruling class. They were guided by their own interests, which did not coincide with those of the bourgeoisie. As long as Hitler protected them against Bolshevism, the German capitalists were happy to back him up. As long as Hitlers armies were advancing, they joined in the applause and salutes. The United Nations was formed after the Second World War and part of the reason to why it was formed was to look out for a repeat of Hitler. Today in the United States of America, what president George Bush has done is essentially the same as Hitler. He conquered and invaded a country because of self interests. He justifies himself by claiming to l ead a democracy into Afghanistan. The truth of the matter is that he still invaded a country without the authorisation of the UN. Responsibility of Business Ethics and Sustainability

Question: Discuss about the Responsibility of Business Ethics and Sustainability. Answer: Introduction: The word Ethics refers to the accepted principles of right or wrong that govern the conduct of a person, the members of a profession or the organization. Often the ethics varies in the areas such as in the economic development, politics, legal systems, and based on culture. The culture of a place moulds and shapes the nature of the particular country. Certain practices in one country may be considered as an unethical one when it is judged by other countries. Therefore, the International issues in business ethics are purely relative (Friedman 1970). It is always helpful in this respect to abide by the certain ways of business of different culture. The ethical issue related to one culture depends upon the decision of the individual, or the work group. If as the corporate social responsibility is applied by the use of some incentives it may be taken as a positive or a negative outcome by the different cultures. The employees who are of a particular cultural section are groomed and have education only of the particular section and they are not always open to the new ways of business and to their changed ethics. Sometimes it becomes very difficult to establish business with a culture, which is very different from the former country (Sternberg 2000). Every culture sets their international ethical issues based on the particular problems they face, therefore the the set of ethics are different and it not possible for the companies to modify the every rules according to the different cultures. These areas are found to be common in all businesses in the world. One should also consider it a priority to constantly redesign, improve and ven invent equipment. When I find a job in this field, one needs to be dedicated to all the duties assigned and even carry out more research work in order to achieve the best and be the best engineer of all time. Since there are many universities offering degrees in the mechanical engineering field, this means that there are also many courses in the field. This calls for one to check the prospectuses of these universities before applying for thi s course. He/she should first ensure that the degree will be accredited and recognized by the institute of engineers. One will thereafter take four years and this should lead him/her to MEng qualification. This will make the mechanical engineer to be recognized as a graduate engineer. He/she will thereafter take one year in the field doing practical work experience while still in college. So as to achieve Initial Professional Development (IPD), after that, one will need to spend at least four years so as to gain approved work experience after graduating. This will pave way for him/her to be chattered. The first attracting feature to this career is the knowledge with which one combines to qualify for it. Englishmen say that knowledge is power. One needs personally, to be prepared to meet this challenge. He will take his time and dedicate it well so as to achieve it. The career keeps one young and enlightened always. He acts as a source of knowledge that lights the word and makes it a better place. Another motivating factor for a person to live aspiring to be a mechanical engineer is the salary package that comes with it. It is so encouraging and really enables one to live happily and get to enjoy the fruits of his past investment. The parents feel good of their child having prospered in the engineering field as he/she can support them when they become old. The other attracting feature is that there are many opportunities to grow in the mechanical engineering field. With time, one may need to progress my education. There are also opportunities for these. One can do masters and even PhD in mechanical engineering so as to become an inspiring tool for upcoming mechanical engineers. Professionally, a mechanical engineer will appreciate in value with time because of the experience he/she has. Within a very short period of time, the value of hiring an engineer can triple because the experience he/she has coupled with technological advances, will make a mechanical engineer to be a valuable asset that no company would like to loose. What happens then is the increment in payment so as to retain this big asset. Joseph (1986) speculates that in the future, to ensure that a mechanical engineer is at par with the changing world of engineering, he/she should make plans to take part in forums organized by mechanical engineers so as to keep in touch with the changing world. The engineer will always review my skills and add new technology to it through reading journals and even taking more courses in order to cover more areas of the mechanical engineering career. As a summary, mechanical engineering is considered the origin of all the engineering professions in the world. For example, for a civil engineer to construct a road, he/she shall need land movers, that are basically designed and manufactured by a mechanical engineer. For a structural engineer to build a high-rise building, he/she needs to consult a mechanical engineer for pulleys and design of plumbing services. For an electrical engineer to repair and maintain a workstation, he needs tools that most likely designed and manufactured by a mechanical engineer. Therefore considering all these, mechanical engineering is considered to be the backbone of all the engineering fields known to man and this should be a guideline to encourage on to take a career in mechanical engineering.

Biography of Rudolf Diesel, Inventor of the Diesel Engine

Biography of Rudolf Diesel, Inventor of the Diesel Engine The engine that bears his name set off a new chapter in the Industrial Revolution, but German engineer Rudolf Diesel (1858–1913), who grew up in France, initially thought his invention would help small businesses and artisans, not industrialists.  In truth, diesel engines are commonplace in vehicles of all types, especially those that have to pull heavy loads (trucks or trains) or do a lot of work, such as on a farm or in a power plant. For this one improvement to an engine, his impact on the world is clear today. But his death more than a century ago remains a mystery. Fast Facts: Rudolf Diesel Occupation: EngineerKnown For:  Inventor of the Diesel engineBorn:  March 18, 1858, in Paris, FranceParents:  Theodor Diesel and Elise StrobelDied:  September 29 or 30, 1913, in the English ChannelEducation:  Technische Hochschule (Technical High School), Munich, Germany; Industrial School of Augsburg, Royal Bavarian Polytechnic of Munich (Polytechnic Institute)Published Works:  Theorie und Konstruktion eines rationellen Wremotors  (Theory and Construction of a Rational Heat Motor), 1893Spouse:  Martha Flasche (m. 1883)Children:  Rudolf Jr. (b. 1883), Heddy (b. 1885), and Eugen (b. 1889)Notable Quote:  I am firmly convinced that the automobile engine will come, and then I consider my life’s work complete. Early Life Rudolf Diesel was born in Paris, France, in 1858. His parents were Bavarian immigrants. At the outbreak of the Franco-German War, the family was deported to England in 1870. From there, Diesel went to Germany to study at the Munich Polytechnic Institute, where he excelled in engineering. After graduation he was employed as a refrigerator engineer in Paris, at Linde Ice Machine Company, beginning in 1880.  He had studied thermodynamics under Carl von Linde, head of the company, in Munich. His true love lay in engine design, however, and over the next few years he began exploring a number of ideas. One concerned finding a way to help small businesses compete with big industries, which had the money to harness the power of steam engines. Another was how to use the laws of thermodynamics to create a more efficient engine. In his mind, building a better engine would help the little guy, the independent artisans, and entrepreneurs. In 1890 he took a job heading the engineering department of the same refrigeration firm in its Berlin location, and during his off time (to keep his patents) would experiment with his engine designs. He was aided in the development of his designs by Maschinenfabrik Augsburg, which is now MAN Diesel, and Friedrich Krupp AG, which is now ThyssenKrupp. The Diesel Engine Print Collector/Getty Images Rudolf Diesel designed many heat engines, including a solar-powered air engine. In 1892 he applied for a patent and received a development patent for his diesel engine. In 1893 he published a paper describing an engine with combustion within a cylinder, the internal combustion engine. In Augsburg, Germany, on August 10, 1893, Rudolf Diesels prime model, a single 10-foot iron cylinder with a flywheel at its base, ran on its own power for the first time. He received a patent there for the engine that same year and a patent for an improvement. Diesel spent two more years making improvements and in 1896 demonstrated another model with the theoretical efficiency of 75 percent, in contrast to the 10 percent efficiency of the steam engine or other early internal combustion engines. Work continued on developing a production model. In 1898 Rudolf Diesel was granted U.S. patent #608,845 for an internal combustion engine.   His Legacy Rudolf Diesels inventions have three points in common: They relate to heat transference by natural physical processes or laws, they involve markedly creative mechanical design, and they were initially motivated by the inventors concept of sociological needs- by finding a way to enable independent craftsmen and artisans to compete with large industry. That last goal didn’t exactly pan out as Diesel expected. His invention could be used by small businesses, but the industrialists embraced it eagerly as well. His engine took off immediately, with applications far and wide that spurred the Industrial Revolutions rapid development. Following his death, diesel engines became common in automobiles, trucks (starting in the 1920s), ships (after World War II), trains (starting in the 1930s), and more- and they still are. The diesel engines of today are refined and improved versions of Rudolf Diesels original concept. His engines have been used to power pipelines, electric and water plants, automobiles and trucks, and marine craft, and soon after were used in mines, oil fields, factories, and transoceanic shipping. More efficient, more powerful engines allowed boats to be bigger and more goods to be sold overseas. Diesel became a millionaire by the end of the 19th century, but bad investments left him in a lot of debt at the end of his life. His Death In 1913, Rudolf Diesel disappeared en route to London while on an ocean steamer coming back from Belgium to attend the groundbreaking of a new diesel-engine plant- and to meet with the British navy about installing his engine on their submarines, the History Channel says.  He is assumed to have drowned in the English Channel. Its suspected by some that he committed suicide over heavy debts, due to bad investments and poor health, information that didnt come out until after his death. However, theories immediately began that he was helped overboard. A newspaper at the time speculated, Inventor Thrown Into the Sea to Stop Sale of Patents to British Government, the BBC noted. World War I was at hand, and Diesels engines made it into Allied submarines and ships- though the latter were primarily for World War II. Diesel was a proponent of vegetable oil as fuel, putting him at odds with the ever-growing petroleum industry and leading, the BBC says, to the theory that Diesel was Murdered by Agents From Big Oil Trusts. Or it could have been coal magnates, yet others speculated, because steam engines ran on tons and tons of it. Theories kept his name in the papers for years and even included an assassination attempt by German spies to prevent his sharing details about the development of the U-boat. Sources Daimler. Impact of After Sales Service on the Sale of Apples Products Dissertation

Impact of After Sales Service on the Sale of Apples Products - Dissertation Example The current global market is increasingly being filled with products with similar attributes, features and offerings. As a result, companies are finding it extremely difficult to differentiate their products on the basis of attributes and features alone. Fierce competition as well as diminishing profit margins from sales of products has forced companies to think of out-of-the-box marketing and promotional tactics in order to survive in this competitive market. Customers too are opting for brands that provide better offerings and a comprehensive package. So, companies have started implementing after-sales services as well as associated activities as a relevant source for profit and key differentiating strategy. Profits and revenues generated from these services are often found to be higher than traditional product marketing. Various surveys on impact of after sales services have also revealed that these may shoot up profits to three times higher than the original turnover calculated i n a product’s entire life cycle. However, there is a need for dramatic shift in traditional perception regarding after sales services, from being perceived as a necessary evil to a customer-centric approach (Gaiardelli, 2007). With increasing competition in the global environment dominated by rising costs of customer recruitment, loyalty of customer has become the marketplace currency in this 21st century. Companies are implementing various service solutions based on technology such as, CRM (Customer Relationship Management).

Pros and cons of globalisation Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

Pros and cons of globalisation - Essay Example Similarly, for centuries, people and business have invested in enterprises in additional countries. If we analysed the term "globalization" has acquired substantial affecting force. No doubt, some view it as a procedure that is useful a key to future world fiscal expansion and also inevitable and irreparable. According to the global experts there are so many questions concerning globalization like when did it commence, who supports, who alongside it or does technology effects globalization We will scrutinize these questions and attempt to find the greatest answers. Let's take a quick tour of globalization is a broadly used and hotly discussed subject which has numerous definitions. It can simply be defined as the compression of the world. However, globalization is too complex to be described with a single definition. Here are some more definitions to understand the subject better: According to the WTO report, globalization is the homogenization of people's tastes as well as demand patterns just about the world, due to augmented access to global communication of information regarding products and services as well as amplified access to transportation of products and people crosswise borders.(Hammond & Grosse,2003) Globalization can be explained as Adam Smith did as, "the growth of opulence," meaning when constraints on people's competitiveness are removed, then progress will flourish, with each individual looking to get better his or her lot. Globalization is The Process According to the expert analysis globalization is the procedure by which businesses generate value by leveraging their resources and ability across borders, as well as includes the organization of cross-border manufacturing and marketing strategies * Globalization is the rising integration of economies and societies around the globe. * A social procedure in which the restraint of geography on social and educational arrangements recede as well as in which people become gradually more aware that they are receding ( Waters, 1995). * Globalization is a procedure (or set of progression) which embodies a revolution in the spatial organization of social dealings and transactions, produce transcontinental or interregional flows as well as networks of activity, dealings as well as power. Technology and Organization According to the expert analysis globalization is a procedure of interaction and incorporation in the midst of the people, companies, as well as governments of dissimilar nations, a procedure driven by international trade as well as investment and aided by information technology. Global Value According to the expert analysis it is helpful for media reforms to obtain place, in order to reduce the harmful communal and economic effects for the nations it is moving. The onus is therefore located on the governments and media practitioners to plan remedial events. This process may not be an simple one due to the information the global media, is certainly propelled by globalisation. Hence the state of affairs worsens because each day the world becomes additional of a worldwide village. However apathy is not the method to go, changes have to be made to downplay the damaging effects of global media

Six Simple Ways to Go Green Essay Example for Free

Six Simple Ways to Go Green Essay These days it seems you can`t even go two hours without seeing or hearing something about being green, whether it`s an advertisement for an Earth-friendly product, news about an environmentally-sound investment, a report about a business or community that`s taking steps to be more eco-conscious, or just general advice on how to save the planet. Going green isn`t just the latest trend though; it`s something we all must do to conserve resources, combat climate change, and preserve our planet for generations to come. Here are six easy-but essential-things you can do to green your lifestyle (and save a little cash too:) 1. Green Clean Your House: Conventional household cleaners and bug-killers can contain as many as 200 industrial compounds, pollutants, and other chemicals. These harmful toxins are dangerous for you, your children and your animal companions, as well as harmful to the environment. Chemicals in cleaning products have even been implicated in Parkinson`s disease, infertility, brain damage, cancer, and other health problems. It`s safer and greener to buy only organic, all-natural cleaning products. Many natural, cruelty-free cleaning products are available in many supermarkets and drugstores. Thrifty cleaners can also make their own green cleaning supplies with everyday, inexpensive ingredients like baking soda, borax, cornstarch, and white distilled vinegar, which is effective for killing bacteria and germs. 2. Garden with a Green Thumb: Americans use approximately 80 million pounds of pesticides in their gardens every year. Like chemical-cleaners, pesticides and synthetic fertilizers pose a threat to you and your loved ones, and the environment in general. Instead, use compost and plant native plants, which have adapted to the environment and require less water and attention, in your garden. By composting you can recycle your yard and kitchen wastes (even your dinner scraps) to fertilize your own garden. This saves you time and money and helps the environment. 3. Don`t Be in the Dark About Green Light Bulbs: Compact fluorescent light bulbs are energy-efficient, long-lasting, and cost-effective. They can be purchased at most hardware stores and cost under $4 each. If you use compact fluorescent light bulbs instead of standard incandescent ones, you`ll not only help save the environment, but you`ll also save around $30 on your electric bill. 4. Curb Consumerism: Do you really need more knick-knacks, techno-toys, fad fashions, and stuff that will ultimately land in a landfill? Cutting back on unnecessary purchases not only helps save landfill space (and all the materials needed to make the must-have merchandise), but it will also save you money for more important things. When you do go shopping bring along reusable canvas shopping bags. Every year Americans use up to 100 billion plastic bags, which equals about 12 million barrels of oil. Some stores offer a small discount if you bring your own bag, and by not using a non-biodegradable, petroleum-based plastic bag, you can help save wildlife. Thousands of animals choke to death on plastic bags, thinking they are food. 5. Eat Green: If you want to be green, it`s important to eat green-vegetarian, that is. Meatless Mondays or Thursdays, or what have you, are a great start. The less meat you eat the more you help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, curb pollution, and conserve water, land, fossil fuels, and other resources. Consider this: *A United Nations report revealed that the meat, egg, and dairy industries are responsible for more greenhouse gasses than all the cars, SUVs, ships, tractor trailers, trains, and jumbo jets combined. According to the Live Earth concert handbook, refusing meat is the single most effective thing you can do to reduce your carbon footprint. Researchers with the University of Chicago even report that going vegan is 50% more effective in stopping global warming than switching to a hybrid car. *The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) says that run-off from factory farms pollutes our waterways more than all other industrial sources combined. The EPA also reports that about 80 percent of ammonia emissions in America come from animal waste. *It takes more than 4,000 gallons of water per day to produce food for a meat-eater; only 300 gallons of water a day are needed to produce food for a vegan. Nearly 80 percent of the agricultural land in the U.S. is used to raise animals for food. E: The Environmental Magazine has reported that more than one-third of all fossil fuels produced in the U.S. are used to raise animals for food. 6. Buy Local: If you buy locally-grown fruits and veggies rather than produce that has been trucked across the country, you can help conserve fossil fuels and reduce the amount of carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide, and other harmful pollutants released into the air. Buying produce from a local farmer`s market also supports local farmers, who often do not use as many harmful chemicals and waxes on the food they grow. You can usually find your local produce cheaper at the Farmer`s Market than in the grocery store.

To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee - Answers :: To Kill a Mockingbird Essays

To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee Question : On giving Jem and Scout air rifles, Atticus tells them that to kill a mockingbird is a sin. Miss Maudie explains that mockingbirds only do one thing, and that is to sing their hearts out for us. Who are the mockingbirds in the story, and how have they been ‘killed’ by the society around them? Ideas : The two main mockingbirds are Boo Radley and Tom Robinson, but there are others within the storyline. Boo Radley has been shut away from the world by his father and then later his brother through an incident which occurred fifteen years earlier when he stabbed his father with a pair of scissors. The suggestion is that he had gone mad and should have been committed to an asylum. His influence in our story is all-good in that he gives gifts to the children, repairs Jem’s pants when they are caught on the fence and, of course, saves the children’s lives when Bob Ewell attacks them. Sheriff Tate recognizes the vulnerability of Boo and that any publicity would destroy him, so he says that the death was an accident. Tom Robinson is actually killed and his death is a sin committed by the whole white community of Maycomb. All he tried to do was to abide by the rules of the society in which he lived and when a black person is asked to do a chore he obeys. The main enemies of birds are cats and Lee describes Mayella as being like ‘a steady-eyed cat with a twitchy tale’ and the bird she is focusing on is of course, Tom Robinson. Lee’s description is that of a cat stalking its prey. Jem to some degree was also a mockingbird. He went with Scout to the black church in order to please Calpurnia, and the Rev. Sykes. Jem suffers in that his youthful idealism is shattered by the verdict given by the all-white jury at the trial. The pet-dog of Maycomb is called Tim Johnson, a bird-dog, who one day acts strangely because he has caught rabies. He gave pleasure to the townsfolk, but suddenly he now causes fear. So much so that even the mockingbirds are silent. Atticus shoots the dog for the good of the whole town. Question : Discrimination rears its ugly head in many forms within this story. Give examples of this. Ideas : The obvious discrimination is that of the dominant white community over the subservient black community. They are not given the same opportunities regarding education, illustrated by the visit to the Negro church where only a few can read.

Diets Make You Fat Essay

The United States of America is a nation known for our obsession over â€Å"big things†. Americans have the biggest cars, the biggest houses, and now, the biggest people. Obesity rates in the United States has skyrocketed and more than one-third of American adults are obese. Some researchers suspect that by 2030, more than half the population will be obese unless Americans change what they consume and how much they exercise. Many Americans are now realizing the deadly effects of obesity and are turning to diets to stabilize and maintain a healthy weight. But for some people, this cultural solution to the national problem does not work at all, and even gives reverse affects. Although dieting can help an individual to lose weight, it can also lead to gaining of weight because of hormones, the dieting mentality, and our culture as Americans. Although people see dieting as the sure-fire way to losing pounds, scientists have found that dieting actually changes the way their brain and metabolism work. When a person starts a diet, their brain begins to send hormones that tell the body to hoard body fat. This makes it harder to lose weight because your body thinks that it is lacking food, and therefore, relies on body fat. These same hormones also trigger food craving in the brain, making that individual hungry constantly and eventually succumb to eating again (Naish, 1) . The dieting mentality is also a huge reason why diets can have reverse affects. Have you ever gone to dinner with a friend, who ordered a huge plate of pasta because tomorrow was the start of her diet? Or, have you ever heard someone say they were going for ice cream because they â€Å"earned† it by going to the gym that day? This makes it so diets are nothing more than a storm of restrictive eating patterns, shame, and guilt. A person on a diet may lose the pounds they wanted, but as soon as they reached their goal, they start to fall in the same patterns again and gain the weight they lost, or even more (Johnson, 1). Lastly, our own culture fights against us. We are a nation of fast food and junk food, and are always reminded of it through advertisements. People cannot go a day without seeing at least one advertisement for the new McDonald’s burger or the new sugary junk food that’s available at the nearest grocery store. These companies are exact in the business of advertising their products, and most of the time, target young children to create a â€Å"brand-loyalty† through happy commercials and toy giveaways. We have been manipulated by these companies, and it’s very hard not to indulge in their products. This culture of ours needs to change before we improve our health and stop obesity. In conclusion, diets in America can be too blame for making us â€Å"fat†. Our own bodies, minds, and culture wreak havoc against us and make it very hard to shed those pounds that one wants to lose. Some Americans turn to deadly diets as an answer, such as fad-diets, and also diets that lead to bulimia. However, there are diets that actually work, such as the dieting by lowering portions. Whatever the diet may be, Americans must face the cruel reality that their lives are in jeopardy and must fight off the urge to eat fast food and junk food, and exercise regularly. Or else, we have to face the consequences of the future.

Essay Cinematography in Schindlers List - 1498 Words

The paper I decided to do was on â€Å"Schindler’s List†. I have seen this movie four times and yet had not really noticed the many ways in which the director, Steven Spielberg, used the camera to emphasis a â€Å"million words†. It was interesting, when watching this film from this stand point, how I was able to see the importance of the way the director uses sounds and color to make some much significant points of a film. I decided to emphasis the way certain close ups and facial expressions were used to show very significant emotions of the characters in the film. In these particular scenes, no words had to be used. The camera focuses on the character involved in the scene and one can tell exactly what is going on in the mind of the character.†¦show more content†¦The relieved boy runs off. The next scene is a powerful scene. The camera does a close up of Goeth looking into a mirror. He is adjusting his hair. He seems to slip into a dream world. He envisions himself the powerful emperor that Schindler describes. He whispers â€Å" I pardon you†. The camera then focuses on Goeth eyes. Without saying anything, the viewer knows that Goeth is far too gone. He doesn’t have the power described by Schindler. He is a mad man. Another scene with Goeth that uses camera scene only and silence to depict so much is the scene where all the Jewish is in the hot trains. Schindler feels compassion toward these suffering people. He asks that some hoses be provided in order to cool the passengers. The SS guards think, because of their own perversions, that Schindler is trying to be cruel. They think he is trying to give the Jewish false hope. Schindler laughs a long with them. He then asks that his very long hoses be brought so that they will reach the end of the train cars. The next scene shows Schindler spraying the cars at the end of the line. The camera shows a close up of Amon Goeth. Goeth’s expression, without any words, shows a man that is very confused. You can tell that Goeth now sees that Schindler is not being cruel. He sees a man that is powerful, compassionate and a member of the Nazi party. Centrosaurus - Facts and Figures

Name: Centrosaurus (Greek for pointed lizard); pronounced SEN-tro-SORE-us Habitat: Woodlands of western North America Historical Period: Late Cretaceous (75 million years ago) Size and Weight: About 20 feet long and three tons Diet: Plants Distinguishing Characteristics: Single, long horn on end of snout; moderate size; large frill over head About Centrosaurus It was probably too dumb to notice the difference, but Centrosaurus was definitely lacking when it came to defensive armament: this ceratopsian possessed only a single long horn on the end of its snout, compared to three for Triceratops (one on its snout and two over its eyes) and five (more or less, depending on how youre counting) for Pentaceratops. Like others of its breed, Centrosaurus horn and large frill probably served dual purposes: the frill as a sexual display and (possibly) a way to dissipate heat, and the horn to head-butt other Centrosaurus adults during mating season and intimidate hungry raptors and tyrannosaurs. Centrosaurus is known by literally thousands of fossil remains, making it one of the worlds best-attested ceratopsians. The first, isolated remains were discovered by Lawrence Lambe in Canadas Alberta province; later, nearby, researchers discovered two vast Centrosaurus bonebeds, containing thousands of individuals of all growth stages (newborns, juveniles, and adults) and extending for hundreds of feet. The most likely explanation is that these herds of migrating Centrosaurus were drowned by flash floods, not an unusual fate for dinosaurs during the late Cretaceous period, or that they simply perished of thirst while gathered around a dry water hole. (Some of these Centrosaurus bonebeds are interlaced with Styracosaurus fossils, a possible hint that this even more ornately decorated ceratopsian was in the process of displacing Centrosaurus 75 million years ago.) Recently, paleontologists announced a pair of new North American ceratopsians that seem to have been closely related to Centrosaurus, Diabloceratops and Medusaceratops--both of which sported their own unique horn/frill combinations reminiscent of their more famous cousin (hence their classification as centrosaurine rather than chasmosaurine ceratopsians, albeit ones with very Triceratops-like characteristics as well). Given the profusion of ceratopsians discovered in North America over the last few years, it may be the case that the evolutionary relationships of Centrosaurus and its nearly indistinguishable cousins have yet to be fully sorted out.

Essay on Childrens Comprehension of Television Messages

Childrens Comprehension of Television Messages The literature surveyed so far regarding childrens attention to television has relied on observation of visual attention by the child viewers. Measures of visual attention alone do not provide an indication of what aspects of the message children are extracting from the television screen. In order to acquire indications of this, researchers have relied on post-viewing measures of childrens recognition and recall of information from the program. This research will be considered in this section on childrens understanding of television messages. Here the concern is not with what children are looking at and listening to, but what they remember from the TV and what meaning the TV†¦show more content†¦These authors attempt to demonstrate through experimental or survey procedures that children of a particular age or stage level accordingly do or do not use television characters motivations when assessing their behaviors. This is a clear-cut example of directly borrowing develo pmental theoretical notions and demonstrating their applicability when children are processing television information. In other situations, however, cognitive development theory in general may be less useful in directly describing or predicting age-related changes in childrens construction of meaning from television. For instance, we are only beginning to examine childrens understanding of various kinds of filmic techniques, such as zooms, camera movements, and montage (see Salomon, 1979). One researcher in this area, Solomon (1979), argues that these and other sorts of filmic techniques-- indeed, the whole symbol system used on television for representing reality--may actually play a role in accelerating or otherwise affecting cognitive developmental changes among child viewers. That is, Solomon argues for a reverse causality, that just as child viewers level of cognitive development may lead them to interpret television in a certain manner, television viewing may lead to changes i n their level of cognitive abilities. Political Economy of International trade †MyAssignmenthelp.com

Question: Discuss about the Political Economy of International trade. Answer: International trade has always been a subject to the politics of the nations that are involved. The exchange of goods and services between multiple countries depend on the various political policies that are impending in those nations (Frieden Lake, 2015). The international market for trade is huge and countries make huge money from such trades as they exchange the abundance produce with other countries for money or other services. For a nation to develop and progress on the economic front, it is essential for them to involve in the process of free trade so that the economy does not face any kind of stagnation and keeps growing. Trade of a nation depends on the political actions that are persistent in the country, it is essential for a country to have a pro-trade government and the relationship they share with other trading countries have to be good so that they can involve themselves in the various trading practices. The practice of free trade is one of the most important political factors that create the stage for a country to become an eminent player in the global trade arena. The liberalization of trade has been a feature that has been eminent in the global stage from the 1980s and hence the global trade market has kept growing since then (Dawson, 2015). The political scenario has changed since then and it is seen that the countries have become friendlier with each other as the political heads have realized the need for a good relationship as it will help in trade. However, it is seen that with passing time, there are a few countries that are moving away from the free trade and have started shifting towards political protectionism. The free trade has lead to the mixing up of cultures and has lead to the degradation of the ethnic cultures of the place. Due to the inflow of good from the foreign countries, it is seen that the local small producers are not getting any share of the market and the products they produce are being sold are low prices and they fac e huge loses (Irwin, 2015). People have moved away from the ethnic to the imported goods and the local producers are slowly moving out of business. Such a practice will lead to the economic situation of the country to fall and the number of unemployed to increase. The political theories of hegemonic stability and dependency theory have triggered the movement away from free trade for various countries as they have felt the need to preserve their own culture. Many a times it was seen that in the earlier days, it was the pressure from the various domestic groups to open up the market and the government complied to such demands but now the politics of trade has taken a turn and it is evident that all the positives and negatives are well evaluated before a decision is taken regarding the trade policies. Rose For Emily By Faulkner Essays (628 words) - A Rose For Emily

Rose For Emily By Faulkner A Rose for Emily by William Faulkner is a remarkable tale of Emily Grierson, whose funeral drew the attention of the entire population of Jefferson a small southern town. Emily was raised in the ante-bellum period before the Civil War in the south. An unnamed narrator, who is consider to be "the town" or at least the collaborative voice of it, aligns key moments in Emily's life, including the death of her father and her brief relationship with a man form the north named Homer Barron. In short this story explains Emily's strict and repetitive ways and the sullen curiosity that the towns people have shown toward her. Rising above the literal level of Emily's narrative, the story basically addressesthe symbolic changes in the South after the civil war. Emily's house symbolizes neglect, and improvishment in the new times in the town of Jefferson. Beginning with Emily Grierson's funeral, the story foreshadows the ending and suspenseful events in Emily's life, and her other impending circumstances. A Rose for Emily tells the tale of a young woman who lives and abides by her father's strict sensibilities. The rampant symbolism and Falkner's descriptions of the decaying house, coincide with Miss Emily's physical and emotional decay, also emphasize her mental degeneration, and further illustrate the outcome of Falkner's story. Miss Emily's decaying house, not only lacks genuine love and care, but so douse she in her adult life, but more so during her childhood. The pertinence of Miss Emily's house in relation to her physical appearance is brought on by constant neglect and unappreciatation. As an example, the house is situated in what was once a prominent neighborhood that has now deteriorated. Originally the house was described as, "It was a big, squarish frame house that had once been white, decorated with cupolas and spires and scrolled balconies in the heavily lightsome style of the seventies" of an earlier time, now many of the towns people see that the house has become "an eyesore among eyesores". Through lack of attention, the house has deteriorated from a beautiful estate, to an ugly desolate shack. Similarly, Emily has also become an eyesore in the following various ways. For instance, she is first described as a "fallen monument" to suggest her former grandeur and her later ugliness. She might have stayed out of the public eye after these two deaths which left her finally alone, something she was not used to. When Emily died Jefferson lost a prominent monument of the Old South. This story contains a high rate of symbolism thoroughly distributed and revealed by shady foreshadowing. Just as the house has, Emily has lost her beauty. Once she had been a beautiful woman, who later becomes obese and bloated. In this post civil war town, the great estate and Emily had suffered the toll of time and neglect. As the exterior, the interior of the house as well resembles Emily's increasing decent and the growing sense of sadness that accompanies such a downfall. All that is told of the inside of Emily's house is a dim hall, where a staircase is mounted into descending darkness, with the house smelling of foul odors. The combined darkness and odor of the house relate with Emily in some of the following ways, with her dry and cold voice as if it were scrappy and dry from disuse just like her house. The similarity between the inside of the house and Emily extends to the mantel, where there is a portrait of her father and Emily sitting there. Internally and externally, both Emily's building and her body are in a state of deterioration and tarnishment like a metallic material. An example of Emily's unwillingness to change is when she refused to let the "new guard" attach metal numbers above her door and fasten a mailbox when the town received free mail service. This reflected Emily's unyielding and stubborn persona caused by and related to her father's strict treatment of her when she was young.

oi23 Essays - Prophets Of Islam, Biblical People In Islam

When many Americans here the term Islam or Muslim they associate it with such groups as the Nation of Islam or the Black Muslims. However these groups and others like them often have very little in common with the true Islamic faith. They use the term Islam to generate support for their causes, but in so doing they often destroy the public?s view of the main Islamic faith. The People of the Book is an honorary title given to the Jewish, Christian and Muslim faiths. All three religions believe in one God and in his word, delivered through the prophets: Moses received the word of God in the Torah, Jesus and the Gospels and Muhammad and the Quran. The three religions also share a similar belief in prophethood; many Christians are stunned to hear that many Biblical prophets are also considered Islamic prophets. The Quran says in (2:136) Say we believe in God, and the revelation given to us, and the revelation given to Abraham, Ismail, Isaac, Jacob and the tribes, and that given to Moses and Jesus, and that given to the prophets from their Lord: We make no distinction between one and another of them, and to Him we are submitters. Islam does have many differences from the other two religions but it does preach a message of tolerance. Mohammad said, ?Whoever hurts a person from the people of the book it will be as though he hurt me personally.? Islam is closer to Christianity and Judaism then they are to each other since it recognizes both as divine religions where Christians have already seen their Messiah and the Jewish people are still awaiting his appearance.(Islam and the Others) There is no room in Islam to believe that God could have walked the earth. They hold God in such a high, and majestic place that even to consider such a thought is ridiculous. They can also not believe the fact that God worked for six days and then had to rest on the seventh day. God is all powerful and therefore would not need a day of rest.(Islam and the Others) The Jewish and the Musl im religions could be considered cousins because of Abraham, their common grandfather. Abraham was married to Sarah, but because she was barren Sarah offered Abraham her slave Hagar. Hagar had one child, a boy named Ismail. Sarah grew jealous and forced her husband to ban the two from her house. (The annual Muslim ritual of Hajj honors the pain the mother faced when her food ran out and she was searching for water until the sudden eruption of the well.) Years later Sarah had a son named Isaac, the father of Jacob who became Israel, father of the twelve tribes. From Abraham?s lineage came fourth two religions: Islam through Ismail and Judaism threw Isaac. To the Muslim people Ismail and Isaac are two equally blessed prophets. However to the Jewish people Abraham had only one son, Isaac, because Ismail?s mother was a maid. A major difference between the two religions is their stances on Jesus. The Muslims believe Jesus was a genuine messenger of God, sent to deliver God?s message to t he Jewish people. The Quran says: ?We killed Christ Jesus son of Mary the messenger of God?But they killed him not, nor crucified him...only a likeness of that was shown to them and those who differ therein are full of doubts with no knowledge but only conjecture to follow. For a surety they killed him not: Nay, God raised him up unto Himself, and God is most exalted, wise. This passage also brings up another interesting view of the Islamic faith. By saying that it was not Jesus who was crucified, but rather a likeness of him, the Islamic faith is releasing any responsibility for Jesus death on the Jewish people. The Muslims hold Jesus and Mary in very high regard. Although Jesus is not considered to be the Messiah by the Muslims he is considered to be a very important prophet. Jesus cannot be the Messiah because according to the Quran God cannot be begotten. ?He is Allah the one; Allah, the eternal, absolute; He begets not, nor is he begotten; and
