The Importance Of Competency Skills For Counseling

When I first stated I was interested in counseling, I thought all I had to do was sit in a chair and listen. I have learned there is a lot more to counseling than just sitting there and listening, you must learn to use competency skills as well. Looking over the 14 personal competencies which includes: 1) Be nonjudgmental; 2) be flexible; 3) be resourceful; 4) personal observations; 5) pay attention to thoughts and feelings; 6) listen carefully; 7) observe attentively; 8) assume complexity; 9) tolerate the stress of uncertainty; 10) have patience; 11) manage personal biases and stereotypes; 12) keep a sense of humor; 13) show respect; and 14) show empathy, I plan to rate myself on a scale of 1(low) to 10 (high) to see what areas are my†¦show more content†¦It does not mean I haven’t been disrespected, it just means that when that happens I can always turn to that person and reply, â€Å"I’m sorry did I disrespect you in anyway because you are disrespecting me and I will not accept it?† I was fortunate enough to be educated on how to use the internet to find resources of any kind, so for me being resourceful is another area that I feel I would rate very high. My family teases me with the nickname of â€Å"google master†, because if there is a need, they know I can locate it without a doubt. I listed more than 3 because it was hard to leave them out, but of the highest ranked competencies, being flexible would be another one to mention. I go over and above to accommodate others. I always make sure those in need can be accommodated. I am a true care giver and I take that to heart. Now that my life has gone through a transitional stage, I look back and see how accommodating I was to others, almost to the stage of being used. I made sure if my phone rung, I answered. If they needed me to watch the kids, I was available. My vocabulary did not include â€Å"no† unless you offered me brussel sprouts. Power Corrupts Essays - 789 Words

Power Corrupts Throughout the history of man, rulers and philosophers have proven that power corrupts. The British Historian Lord Acton observed that â€Å"power tends to corrupt; absolute power corrupts absolutely†. Lord Acton statement is proven through the actions of rulers such as Charles I of England and Hitler. In a letter to his friend Lord Acton wrote that â€Å"power tends to corrupt; absolute power corrupts absolutely†. This quote describes how absolute power always becomes corrupt. Lord Acton recognized the dangers of political power. He understood that rulers put their own interest above all and will do just about anything to stay in power. He believed that wars were always started to†¦show more content†¦In 1642, he was finally overthrown in a civil war against forces led by Oliver Cromwell, who later removed the Parliament by force. Charles I is an obvious example of the corruption of power[3]. The Actions of Hitler also confirms Lord Acton’s theory. Hitler aimed to increase his powers by increasing the size of Germany. Even though Hitler had incredible power he wanted to continuously expand it. The German bourgeoisie paid a heavy price for handing power to Hitler. Once in power, the Nazi bureaucracy could not be controlled by the ruling class. They were guided by their own interests, which did not coincide with those of the bourgeoisie. As long as Hitler protected them against Bolshevism, the German capitalists were happy to back him up. As long as Hitlers armies were advancing, they joined in the applause and salutes. The United Nations was formed after the Second World War and part of the reason to why it was formed was to look out for a repeat of Hitler. Today in the United States of America, what president George Bush has done is essentially the same as Hitler. He conquered and invaded a country because of self interests. He justifies himself by claiming to l ead a democracy into Afghanistan. The truth of the matter is that he still invaded a country without the authorisation of the UN. Responsibility of Business Ethics and Sustainability

Question: Discuss about the Responsibility of Business Ethics and Sustainability. Answer: Introduction: The word Ethics refers to the accepted principles of right or wrong that govern the conduct of a person, the members of a profession or the organization. Often the ethics varies in the areas such as in the economic development, politics, legal systems, and based on culture. The culture of a place moulds and shapes the nature of the particular country. Certain practices in one country may be considered as an unethical one when it is judged by other countries. Therefore, the International issues in business ethics are purely relative (Friedman 1970). It is always helpful in this respect to abide by the certain ways of business of different culture. The ethical issue related to one culture depends upon the decision of the individual, or the work group. If as the corporate social responsibility is applied by the use of some incentives it may be taken as a positive or a negative outcome by the different cultures. The employees who are of a particular cultural section are groomed and have education only of the particular section and they are not always open to the new ways of business and to their changed ethics. Sometimes it becomes very difficult to establish business with a culture, which is very different from the former country (Sternberg 2000). Every culture sets their international ethical issues based on the particular problems they face, therefore the the set of ethics are different and it not possible for the companies to modify the every rules according to the different cultures.
